RST: New glasses, giveaway, Stephen King, Timothy Hutton, and creative block

Thanks to McGriddle Pants, it is once again, Random Shit Tuesday!

My randomness...

♣ On Friday I picked out my new glasses. They should be here any day now... Unfortunately, my insurance didn't cover that much of the cost, so I couldn't get anything too stylish because glasses are expensive, but I think I made the right decision with the ones that I did buy. I think. I'm awful at making big decisions like this. There was one pair that I wanted really badly, but because my noggin' is so humongo, I couldn't get them. Just trying them on was giving me a headache. Oh, and today I'm getting a new haircut. I hope I like it. I'm so nervous. If all goes well, maybe I'll post a pic.

♠ We have a Giveaway winner!

Congrats to cbs111! I gotta be honest, I have no idea who Justin Bieber is, although I see his name everywhere lately (and I think I'm okay not knowing, so don't anyone feel like they need to fill me in or anything. Thanks.). Email me your address, and I'll send those earrings out to you, toot-sweet!

♥ I'm currently involved with a Stephen King book right now (see the side bar). I can't say I'm lovin' it, but I'm not big on quitting a book without finishing it, especially a King book. I have been a huge fan of King's work ever since I graduated from the R.L. Stine/Christopher Pike stage. King's writing has definitely evolved over the years, especially since his "retirement". It seems he's veering away from his typical horror writing, and becoming more of a... suspense writer? I guess that's a good way to describe his recent writings. I suppose old age is mellowing him out. That and he's been off the drugs for awhile now, and I guess it would be logical to say that his writing has been affected by that. Oh well. I'm sure I'll continue to read whatever else he writes.

♦ I briefly caught an episode of Leverage the other night, which is a new-to-me show on TNT. I didn't watch enough to be able to come to any conclusion about how I feel about it, but I did watch enough to remind me that I love Timothy Hutton. Maybe not love in a Christian Slater sense, but I had definitely forgotten about how much I enjoy Hutton.

I'm sure most people remember him from Ordinary People and other early works, but I remember him best from his roles in The Dark Half and Beautiful Girls (I love that movie).

★  I think I have a serious creative block going on. Or something like that. The world has got me down. Which means I may or may not be absent for awhile. I'm kind of bummed out and discouraged in general, so I might not be posting as frequently. Please, try to contain your disappointment, and let's not make a scene.

That is all. Have a great week!

OMG! I LOVED Ordinary People and BEAUTIFUL GIRLS! I loved the idea of going home again-like Garden State. Those movies really do it for me for some reason.

So annoying how glasses are never covered in full :(

Justin Bieber is playing at the State Fair near my house in September, so methinks that his career is just about over before it really took off too much. Poor tweenager.

I REALLY need to get some new glasses.

SCENE! SCENE!! I'M MAKING A SCENE!!
Dude, I feel your pain on the whole "creative block" thing. What is it about this June that makes you want to crawl into a hole and hibernate? The endless weddings? Graduations? I feel so foreced to disect myself and "figure shit out" and all I want to really do is wallow. So self-pity of me!!

I feel many a-book readin' coming on. (can you say, ESCAPE?)

@ Ally- Unless going home again results in drunken antics... *sigh* I never saw OP, but BG is one of my faves.

@ Salt- Ack! Curses! I didn't need to know that!

@ McGriddle- Yeah, WTH? I feel like I'm going to have the post-grad school/unemployed/kinda homeless/dead-ass broke blues for life. I'm also having that, I gotta step back and reassess feeling. And books are definitely the way to go! I'm going to check out some Chuck Klosterman, as you suggested. Thanks!

I was going to make a scene but figured that would take up energy or something and for some reason, i don't have a lot of that lately!
LOL i too have noooo idea who that justin beibert kid is ...everyone is making fun of him and yet i feel no need to get on the wagon and find out who he is and why they are making fun of him...at some point in our lives, i guess we just stop caring about silly crap like that! i have other shit to fill my head with!

I get to pick out new glasses today. I was seriously considering lasik, but I over googled, read and talked myself out of it.

@ Writing Womb- Blah, who does have the energy? Not this girl. Yeah, sometimes I feel out of the loop when I happen to catch any sort of celebrity gossip nowadays, but then I think about it, and I decide I don't really give a shit. I've got bigger problems.

@ Midwestern Mama- Good luck with the glasses. I think glasses are trendy right now anyway (I hope?). I found it to be very stressful and I still doubt I made the right decision. Of course, I had the same problem when I bought my car, my new pair of jeans... I dread the day I have to buy anything of real importance.

I have had the same glasses for 3+ years. I should probably get a new pair. The paint is starting to flake off of them.

Oh man, I just finished the whole picking out new glasses ordeal and when I picked them up, they gave me migraines! No adjustments would work. So now I have to go through the whole process AGAIN!

Ugh. I need a margarita.

Dude. I'm in a creative block, too. I'd look to astrology, if I believed in it. Or weren't supremely lazy.

I'm with you and Sarah P -- I'm feeling very slow, uncreative, and stupid lately. I'm blaming June. And also my brain.

Whenever I start feeling that "I'm a dullard" feeling, I shave my head. It jolts dormant brain cells to live. Seriously, doctors say so. I read an article. Have you tried that?

April said...

@ Hope- Hmmm... yeah, it might be time...

@ hiphophippie- Ooh. That sucks. Sorry to hear it. I'm pretty sure that would have happened to me too.

@ Sarah P- I always blame the full moon. Is there a full moon right now?

@ Didactic Pirate- What a coincidence. I tend to get drastic haircuts. Which I did today. Although, I heard that head shaving thing worked really well for Ms. Spears, so I think you might be on to something. If this new 'do doesn't work out, I'll try the shaving thing. Thanks!

Dont let everything get you down, keep your head up. And I am certain your glasses will look great, dont worry about the little things.

I never win anything, so I'm pumped right now.

I'm jealous of all that don't know the beeb. The first time I heard one of his songs, I wondered how many crazy people were going to protest the little lebian girl singing on the radio!

I think the creative block is going around, if you find a cure let me know!
